I have a “Lehigh Mix” tape of my own!! Except I made it for a road trip to Lehigh University from Cambridge, MA for a football game when I was a senior in college.

I still listen to my cassette mix tapes. I spent many, many hours making those tapes.

Jules, there was Peter Cetera on the mix. Most mix makers try to put together something with the listener’s likes in mind but you… you assault us with Peter Cetera every time. “Oh, you don’t like Peter Cetera? Well, how about some Peter Cetera then?”

Erin, did you specifically get a cassette deck to play tapes or you have one from ages ago?

EVERYONE should like peter cetera… i’m actually not sure why a person wouldn’t? and i too still listen to my mix tapes from time to time – usually on my walkman, when i go for long walks… you’ll be sorry you threw yours out…

Jeff – I have a really, really old tape recorder that I listen to my mix tapes on. It looks like this:

It’s from the literacy lab where I used to teach. They upgraded to CD’s. I did not.

Erin, tell me you don’t hold that up to your ear.

The only other image I have of that tape player is of it sitting in the middle of a dining room table and you sitting in a chair, some 2 or 3 feet away, listening to it and nodding your head along to Hootie and the Blowfish.

Do you bring it in the car with you and put it on your passenger seat?

Oh man!

Ok, being TOTALLY HONEST here. I plug it in in my kitchen while I’m cooking, and listen to my mix tapes. The baby, she is enjoying the tunes as well.

And since I am being totally honest, yes. I do bring it in the car with me SOMETIMES, when the batteries are working, and I put it on the passenger seat. The drive-thru guy at my dunkin donuts has had many a laugh at my expense.

And now you can too.

I still have the silver Aiwa portable stereo (or boombox, if you prefer) that I got the summer before leaving for college, which plays both cassettes and cds. I also sill have my Sony Sports walkman, which amazingly still works some 15 years and 500 accidental drops on the ground later, and is only kept for nostalgic train trip mix listening. I can’t bear to get rid of old mix tapes. For some reason, they bring out the worst nostalgia in me. I do, however, happily encourage you to bid adieu to that Kansas-heavy mix I sent you. Thanks for you forgiveness, by the way. I was really worried.

Nice seeing you a few weekends back!
